When delving into the rhealms of search engine optimization it’s likely you’ll come across the term “Meta tags.” Put simply, a meta tag notifies the search engines as to the contents of the web page. A meta tag should be included in the <head> section of your HTML code. Meta tags come in all different shapes and size but two of the more popular tags include:

If your ambition is to rank highly in the search engines with your website, choosing carefully constructed meta tags is essential. Whenever someone performs a search on Google they are returned with a list of results that can either entice the user click on your website, or quickly glance over your website description but never click through to your site. If you have chosen your “description” meta tag and <title> tag wiseley, you have a much better chance of encouraging a web user to click through to your website.

The <title tag> is the Headline that a search goer will see when browsing through the search engine results where as the “meta description” tag will be the description attached to the headline visible in the search results. The description is the main area where a lot of people fall down. By failing to include a relevant description of your site, you could be leaving a lot of money on the table.

So spend some time coming up with relevant title and keywords meta tags so you can take full advantage of your well ranked Google search engine results.
